STUDY IN AUSTRALIA

There are six states in Australia: Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, and Western Australia. There are also two territories: Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory.

As an international students, you can study at all levels of education from diploma, to vocational training, from English language courses to higher education (including universities).

STUDY COSTS

School-level education in Australia is very cost effective, especially compared to other English-speaking countries. Costs vary from State to State and depend on whether students attend public or non-government schools.  Students needing an available amount each year for living costs alone, according to the country’s student visa requirements. Meanwhile, tuition fees at Australian universities vary considerably depending on where and what you study, and the level you will be studying at.

ACCOMMODATION

Boarding school

  • Many non-government secondary schools provide accommodation, meals and laundry services for international students.
    Tuition fees are in addition to the boarding fees.

Homestay

  • This is popular with younger students and those studying short-term English courses.
  • Students can live with an Australian family, gain access to the Australian lifestyle and practise English in a natural and friendly way.
  • Meals are usually included in the cost and single or shared rooms may be offered.
  • Self-catering homestay is sometimes available at a cheaper price.
    Education providers must ensure that homestay families are reputable, and that they offer good accommodation.

Farmstay

  • This offers the same or similar services as a homestay, but in a rural setting. It can be suitable for short stays.

Share or Rental Accommodation

  • Students over 18 may share or rent an apartment or house.

The Department of Home Affairshas financial requirements you must meet in order to receive a student visa for Australia. From 1st February 2018 the 12 month living cost, including accommodation, and other living expenses is approximately AU$20,290 (~US$14.000) per year.

STUDENT VISA

If you are taking a short program, for example a language course, of maximum 12 weeks you can use a tourist visa. If you have a Working Holiday visa you are allowed to study for 16 weeks. For university studies and all longer programs you will need to apply for a student visa. But, If you are going to study in Australia for a longer period of time you will need to apply for a student visa.
